This open plan home in Chiswick has undergone an incredible transformation.
You wouldn't believe it from looking at the photos, but homeowner Gareth bought the property back in 2018 when it was 'the worst house on a nice street', knowing that it was going to need a lot of work done. The house was in a state of disrepair, and was difficult to get a mortgage on as a result.
The house in its original form had three separate rooms on the ground floor, comprising of a living room at the front of the house, a dining room in the middle and a narrow kitchen at the back. This meant that if they were all in one room it was easy for them to feel on top of each other, and if they were in different rooms they lacked the feeling of togetherness.
So, what did we change? We got rid of all unnecessary walls, opening the ground floor up into a spacious living area and a connected large kitchen dining area, which we made bigger through designing a wraparound extension. This new floor plan gives a really nice clean flow from the front door right through the house into the garden, with a tucked away utility room and WC off of the kitchen for storage and functionality. This floor plan also gives the kids plenty of space to run up and down, as well as access to a converted basement from the living room to use as a playroom, resulting in less toys and lego cluttering the main family space.
The kitchen/dining area has six separate roof lights as well as huge bifold doors at the back, flooding the room with natural light. In the summer the family can open up the doors to be able to enjoy the warmer weather while working, eating or hanging out in the kitchen. They've given the space a sociable feel by decorating with a beautiful extendable dining table, which can be tucked to the side of the room or pulled out and extended for when guests are around. The living room has a much cosier feel to it, with a big sofa and fireplace, a happy place to be during cold winter months.
'Being a control freak, I knew I wanted to be hands on with the project. I was working in SAAS at the time, so I was used to working with dashboards, and that's what really sold it to me.'
'My main takeaway from doing the project with Resi was the simplicity of it all, I never thought I would be able to do this myself. I have no background in property whatsoever, I work in advertising, so it was all quite daunting.'
'We love the house, it just feels like a really happy place to be.'

Resi are a great investment
Resi have been great. We knew we needed help and saw a couple of “all in” firms before we found Resi. The others were extremely expensive and not as flexible as Resi.

Second time I am using Resi
I have found them to be better in terms of ideas, accuracy and efficiency than any other architect I have worked with.
