With an outdated layout, this homeowner was looking for something massive to bring new life into their three-storey home in Richmond upon Thames. Luckily, our designers weren’t afraid to get bold with this project. We not only enlarged the property with a ground floor rear extension, but we also helped map out a full interior renovation, switching up the layout and making the room design much more intuitive. Here’s how our architects pulled this design together.
As fans of Crittall glazing, we added the stylish frames into our design. We combined them with a set of large doors onto a new patio area. The expanse of glass and landscaped garden means the inside and outside of the homes blends seamlessly together, allowing the family to feel connected to their outside space, even during the colder months.
Inside, we used a full-width skylight to bring even more natural light into the space. Below this, we designed a snug area. As the main living room has been relocated to the first floor, this snug area allows the family to chill out together while dinner is being prepared. We also included a breakfast bar and expansive dining area, so no matter what mood this family is in, they have plenty of seating options!
To the front of the ground floor, we also converted the garage into a new utility room, WC, and storage area. This provides plenty of practical space for those less glamorous sides of life.
The old kitchen previously sat on the first floor, but this has now been switched around. In its place, is a new and impressive living room, with enough space for two sets of opposing seating. Alongside this, we’ve also included a generous master bedroom, which has enough space to accommodate a home office set-up, should it be required. And with its own en-suite, there are worse places to spend your night and day!
Finally, we reach the top of the house. Here you’ll find not one, not two, but three other bedrooms. To stop frantic running up and downstairs, we also squeezed in the property’s third bathroom, complete with a wet room and bathtub. To make the most of the loft space, we added in plenty of skylights to keep everything nice and bright. While in the biggest bedroom, we also included built-in wardrobes. All in all, from top to bottom, this well-considered house is going to be a stunning family home for the homeowners to enjoy at the end of this ambitious project!

Resi are a great investment
Resi have been great. We knew we needed help and saw a couple of “all in” firms before we found Resi. The others were extremely expensive and not as flexible as Resi.

Second time I am using Resi
I have found them to be better in terms of ideas, accuracy and efficiency than any other architect I have worked with.
