of projects require a Building Control Approver

“We believe 100% of homeowners can benefit from having a building control approver onboard.”

- Head of Partnerships

Building regulations, building control and building control approvers explained.

Building regulations

These are a set of statutory requirements all buildings must meet in order to create a safe and healthy environment to inhabit.

To ensure your project meets these conditions a set of detailed technical drawings is required.

Similar to planning, these drawings should be approved before you commence building. They will give your builder the information they need to meet legal requirements.

Resi can provide this drawing package for you but will also need input from other key specialists, such as a structural engineer, party wall surveyor, and CCTV drainage surveyor.

Building control

You can submit your project directly to your local authority’s building control, who will review it for approval. If they’re satisfied you’ll be awarded a completion certificate - same as the final certificate you’ll get from a private building control approver.

However, with many councils suffering from budget cuts, most local authorities are unable to provide the same turnaround times and customer service that a private building control approver provides.

Private building control approvers

By using a private building control approver, you can avoid the need to submit your drawings to the local authority building control. This cuts down waiting times to just a few working days.

These can be either an individual or organisation, and must be registered with the Construction Industry Council (CIC), who approve who can work in the UK.

In summary...

Using a private building control approver can help you get onsite faster by reducing the time you need to wait for your technical drawings to be signed off.

Only the very best

We want homeowners empowered to make informed decisions. Our Connect service introduces you to vetted professionals in your area and our team are on-hand to advise you on your decision. We vet contractors by assessing them against a range of criteria amongst which are: whether or not they are Trustmark or FMB affiliated, whether they have the relevant insurances in place; an assessment of their past work; meeting minimum financial standards; and finally, references from both previous customers and trade.

Our team has been in the business for nearly 20 years, so we can introduce you to professionals with relevant skills, as well as show you how to perform your own checks, so you have the knowledge to keep your home protected.

Minimise risk

Our experts can help advise you on red flags to look out for when you're selecting your builder

No extra cost

Our Connect introduction service comes at zero cost to you - Resi charges a 3-5% fee to the contractor for a successful introduction. This fee is charged directly to the contractors, and is based on the total value of your tender. This fee is not an additional sum to the total cost of your project. We believe in ensuring these fees are transparent, and so this fee is paid by the contractor once they start work onsite.
