Providing these homeowners with a loft conversion and dormer extension wasn’t an easy task, but it didn’t scare our team.
When doing a dormer extension, it is important that you take into consideration the right amount of head height needed in the room, so that it provides comfort and plenty of space for moving around easily. As the ceiling height was lower than the homeowner's wanted, our team looked into a couple of options; a ridge raise (raising the peak of where two opposing roof planes meet) and a full dormer extension.
Thanks to our team's years of experience in designing and submitting planning for loft conversions, they weren't shy in putting this proposal forward with the council. The team hoped that by putting their best foot forward they could answer the customers needs and give them the extra space they wanted in their home.
Raising a ridge can be a controversial task in itself as the building may be in a conservation area or some councils may not even allow ridge raising due to the impact it would have on neighbouring properties. The height of the existing house could overlook your neighbours home or the loft itself may not be in keeping with the surrounding property’s style, so it can make it harder to get approved.
Thankfully and to the owners delight, the loft conversion was approved by the council and no issues were brought up from local neighbours meaning our team could continue their work.
In the end, we were able to provide these homeowners with a large loft dormer, that ticked all the boxes off their wish list, giving them an extra room and bathroom in their home for their growing family.
