With gardens at a premium in the capital, these homeowners wanted to extend their property without sacrificing their precious green space. This is a common request and something that makes side extensions so appealing. By using up the dead space at the side of the property, we were able to enlarge the ground floor and give it a full interior redesign.
With a long and unloved alleyway extending from the bedroom and down to the back of the kitchen, it was clear where an extension could go. Squaring off the property opened up two renovation opportunities, allowing us to use the new space to create an open-plan kitchen, diner and living room. It also gave us space for a new storage solution and rear garden entrance.
Located in the basement of the building, this new layout needed glazing – and lots of it. Consequently, our designs included large skylights over the kitchen and an impressive set of bi-fold doors.
One of the benefits of open plan design is how it maximises space and eliminates the waste traditionally caused by hallways. Thanks to this extra space, we could offer both formal and informal dining areas, including a breakfast bar on the kitchen island. The kitchen island also helps break up the space, dividing it from the rest of the floorplan. Both the dining room and living room sit opposite the large bi-fold doors, ensuring that when it comes to relaxing, there's a calming view to enjoy.
We all need a little pamper time, so why not do it in style? These homeowners were keen to get the bathroom of their dreams with this project, so we carved out a generous amount of space at the front of the house for a large main bathroom. Key features include a standing bathtub, his and her sinks, and a spacious wet room. We also included stylish storage to hide away the boiler, while the homeowners completed the look with some very on-trend tiles.
